Commissioners’ Court sets burn ban

BurnBan logoHenderson County Commissioners’ Court approved a two-week burn ban Tuesday morning.

Fire Marshal Shane Renberg told commissioners the county’s average Keetch-Byram Drought Index score was 667, with a high of 757. The KBDI is a measure of moisture in the soil, and a burn ban is recommended when the KBDI score is above 575.

Ignoring the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $500.

– Mill and inlay operations are scheduled for Business 31 East between FM 2495 and Loop 7. Maintenance crews plan to complete the work this week. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control and assistance with traffic flow to allow movement in and out of local businesses.

– Work to place a new overlay on SH 31 (.09 miles west of FM 317 eastward to .34 miles west of FM 773) should be finished in late October. TxDOT update for the week of Sept. 14

txdot– TxDOT Maintenance is conducting mill and inlay work on Business 31 inside Loop 7 on Athen’s west side. Work will then move to the east side of the Athens between FM 2495 and Loop 7. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

Commissioners’ Court lifts burn ban

Comissioner Ronny Lawrence comments before Henderson County Commissioner’s Court unanimously votes to drop burn ban this morning.

Henderson County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg asked residents to “please use extreme caution while burning,” on his office’s Facebook page.

TxDOT Update Week of Aug. 31

– TxDOT maintenance is cleaning ditch lines on FM 773 between FM 1616 and the Murchison City limits as well as removing debris and patching potholes throughout Henderson County.
