The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of North Central Texas, including Henderson County. The Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 6 p.m. this evening through Tuesday morning.
The forecast calls for rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches with isolated higher totals possible.
The National Weather Service has issued the following Hazardous Weather Outlook for North and Central Texas, including Henderson County:
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TODAY. THE PRIMARY HAZARDS THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON WILL BE GUSTY WINDS AND CLOUD-TO-GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES.
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BECOME LIKELY TONIGHT. A FEW DISCRETE STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS ARE POSSIBLE EARLY THIS EVENING…BEFORE A LINE OF SEVERE STORMS ENTERS WESTERN NORTH TEXAS BY MIDNIGHT AND TRACKS EAST INTO AREAS EAST OF INTERSTATE 35 BY SUNRISE TUESDAY MORNING.
DESTRUCTIVE STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE THE PRIMARY THREAT WITH THE OVERNIGHT SQUALL LINE. HOWEVER…A FEW TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE…ESPECIALLY WITH ANY DISCRETE SEVERE STORMS AHEAD OF THE SQUALL LINE. HAIL TO QUARTER SIZE WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG AND WEST OF INTERSTATE 35 CORRIDOR. LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL COULD LEAD TO FLOODING…ESPECIALLY THOSE AREAS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED HEAVY RAINFALL IN RECENT WEEKS.
You asked us what the schedule was for fixing FM 317 in Athens, so we asked TxDOT … but I don’t think you are going to like the answer.
According to TxDOT spokesperson Kathi White, repairs are still several months away.
In a statement that was released to area news outlets Friday, TxDOT said:
Work on design plans for repairs to FM 317 in Henderson County just outside of Athens is nearing completion. The roadway washed out about three miles east of SH 31 last spring due to excessive rain and has remained closed to traffic.
Once the plans for a permanent repair are finalized and approved, the project will likely go to bid in February. Construction should get underway in the spring with repairs taking several months to complete before the roadway returns to normal traffic flow.
Stabilization work to prevent additional damage to the road was conducted last summer under emergency contract. The work was coordinated with the Corp of Engineers and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Traffic detours will stay in place until the road is rebuilt.
So there you go. Unfortunately, many of you will continue that scenic detour down FM 2495 until spring.
TxDOT crews are addressing maintenance issues on the eastbound inside lane of SH 31W at the Trinity River; and on the southbound outside shoulder of Loop 7 between SH 31 and FM 2495. Later in the week crews plan to head to FM 2709 to repair base failures, and to FM 316 to apply an overlay.
Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.
Mark Tillison, of Murchison, has announced he is running for the office of County Commissioner representing Precinct 3 of Henderson County. He will be running on the Republican Ticket in the 2016 election.
Tillison is a lifelong member of Henderson County; choosing to live, work and raise his family here. He has been married to his wife, Becky Speer Tillison for 14 years, and they have two children, Ty, 11, and Taylor, 7, who both attend school in Brownsboro.
“Henderson County has afforded me so many opportunities, both professionally and as a safe place to raise my family. I want to keep it that way, and I want to give back to the community that has given me so much. I can do that by implementing a conservative approach to the use of tax dollars, while building upon and maintaining the current infrastructure of our roads, bridges, and other county recreational and educational facilities.”
