TxDOT update for Week of April 25

txdotTxDOT (Athens) Maintenance is conducting culvert work on FM 2636 near the FM 3441 intersection. Work then returns to overlay operations on FM 317 between FM 314 and FM 315. A second crew is plans to conduct base repairs on FM 2010 before moving to FM 315. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

Fritcher Construction has been awarded the contract to repair FM 317 in Athens. Work is expected to start later this spring. The road remains closed with traffic detoured due to damage sustained during stormy weather conditions last spring. A washout occurred three miles east of SH 31. Repairs totaling $466,216.00 should take about three months to complete, weather permitting. This job is being coordinated with the Corp of Engineers and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Ongoing projects continue on: SH 31, US 175, FM 315/FM 1616, SH 31 Bridge Eastbound at Cedar Creek,.

On FM 1616, work continues to extend the cross structures. Drivers should anticipate one-way traffic throughout the project limits with daily lane closures. FM 1616 is expected to be completed this summer. Final work is being performed on FM 315 as well with an anticipated completion also in mid-summer.

Henderson County about to be debt free

The County BeatApril 26 is going to be a big day for Henderson County Commissioners’ Court. During their meeting on that Tuesday, commissioners are scheduled to approve the county’s final debt payment.

That’s right, the county will be debt free for the first time in a long, long time, thanks to credit counseling solutions.

Pct. 2 Commissioner Wade McKinney has been on Commissioners’ Court for 17 years and was with the county four years before that, and he doesn’t remember a time when the county wasn’t in debt.

Workforce Solutions invites community partners to meeting

Workforce Solutions East Texas invited local leaders to a meeting Wednesday morning to discuss its programs. Included were officials from organizations like The Help Center and the Family Peace Project to the Athens Chamber of Commerce and the Athens Economic Development Corporation.

“We are outreaching our community partners to inform them exactly what Workforce Solutions does,” said Workforce Solutions Area Manager Angelia Snow. “We offer job searches, but we also offer resume workshops, interview workshops, we focus on the youth with a dynamics futures class to get them in a career pathway.”
