The speaker at the December meeting of the Sarah Maples Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was Sandra Carroll and she read some of her amazing poetry that she has written over the years and spoke about her time in the service. Sandy enlisted in the service when she was just 18 in July of 1963, she remembers raising her hand to swear: I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that I will bear true faith this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose or evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter, so help me God. Then at 19 she was shipped to Southeast Asia and became very old, very quick. Her poetry is mostly about the serviceman in uniform. Rainbow Girls induct new member

The Gun Barrel City Masonic Youth Rainbow Girls inducted one new member into their Pledge group on Saturday, December 16–Siddalee Ocanas. Parents and grandparents were in attendance for the induction ceremony. Siddalee is looking forward to her 11th birthday in April when she can be inducted into the Gun Barrel City Rainbow Girls Assembly. After the Pledge ceremony, Christmas gifts were exchanged and a lunch of chili dogs, chips, cookies, and punch was enjoyed.
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a service-oriented, leadership organization for girls between the ages of 11 and 20. Rainbow Girls participate in a wide array of activities, including leadership training, service projects, competitions, and annual retreats. Their younger group, the Pledges, have activities for girls ages 7 to 10. Ham Radio Club to hold December meeting

It happens every year about this time. People wrap their presents and take them to a party and they are stolen. On purpose in this case. Yes, it’s time for the annual gift-stealing and recycling meeting of the Cedar Creek (ham) Amateur Radio Club.
The idea is for each member to bring an electronic-related item that works, but they haven’t used in a long time. Make sure it is wrapped or in a bag. We draw numbers and each member who brought a package gets to pick from the pile. However according to Christmas Czar Jeff Irion, you won’t necessarily be able to keep that selection. The next pickers can take it away from you, in fact it can be “stolen” twice before the final recipient can keep it. It is all quite a lot of fun and exciting.
If you need to purchase something new for the event, don’t spend more than $20. Here is a chance to pick up something new while getting rid of something old. We will also have updates on various club activities and information about disaster operations.
The meeting starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Mabank Café on Hwy 198 in Mabank. The club meets the second Saturday of each month there. The meeting starts at 9 a.m., but many come early for the breakfast buffet. Anyone interested in technology is welcome.
The Cedar Creek ARC has over forty members from the tri-county area. It maintains a VHF and UHF repeater system that provide hand-held radio coverage to hams in the lake area, and mobile and base coverage throughout the three counties. CCARC participates in the National Weather Service SKYWARN program and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service. The club also provides classes to those wishing to join the ranks of Amateur “ham” Radio. Rainbow Girls say thank you for support of pancake fundraiser
The Gun Barrel City Rainbow Girls held a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser at the Cedar Creek Lake Masonic Lodge in Gun Barrel City on Saturday, Nov. 4. They wish to thank everyone for their support as they raise funds to help with their term charity project and to go to their Mid-Year Conference in Garland in January. They were also excited on Saturday to accept two applications for membership into the Rainbow Girls and one application for membership into the Pledges–there are still openings for membership!
Rainbow Girls participate in a wide array of activities, including leadership training, service projects, competitions, and annual retreats. Along the way, they gather invaluable life skills that help them become the best daughter, sister, student, and friend they can be. Amateur (Ham) Radio Club meeting scheduled for Nov. 11

Do-it-yourself is a very popular activity and there are maker-fairs across the country. There, people show the products they have constructed.
That is the theme of the next meeting of the Cedar Creek Amateur (ham) Radio Club. President Charles Wells is challenging members to bring to the meeting an example of a project they have constructed. Charles knows he better have one himself…and he does. He has constructed a 2-meter antenna from a pants hanger.
