Sarah Maples Registrar Geneice Morris presented Judy Callaway Ostler, who is incoming State Regent, and Pamela Rouse Wright, who is outgoing State Regent, with American Patriot Bibles. The American Patriot’s Bible connects the teachings of the Bible, the history of the United States and the life of every American. It has beautiful full-color insert pages that spotlight the people and events that demonstrate the Godly qualities that have made America great. Truths that formed the foundation of American values and how they apply to today’s culture and fills a need in today’s America. Also the need to recover the original American vision for a Biblically-based society of liberty and justice. The Bible is a great reminder of our spiritual patriotic heritage. (Courtesy Photo)

DAR Presents Outstanding Teacher of the American History Award
Carole Ruska, a member of the Sarah Maples Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, presented Vickie Goodell with our “Outstanding Teacher of the American History Award.” She teaches 11th Grade American History at the Mabank High School. Vickie believes that everything we study in U.S. History can be related to the world we live in and the world her students will inherit. he first settlers to this country knew their life would be difficult, but had hope for a better future for their children. She stresses the human side of our founders. They chose to put everything they had in jeopardy to create this country, not because it would make their lives easier, but to create a better world for posterity. Sarah Maples is honored to know her and to present this award to her. (Courtesy Photo)
Reese Wins DAR Essay Contest
It is the 125th anniversary of Ellis Island and the 8th graders were ask to imagine yourselves as a child traveling through Ellis Island in 1892. How would you transcribe your experience?
The winner of the Sarah Maples DAR essay contest was Presley Reese from Mabank Junior High School and here is what she said: “Hope. That is the first word that traveled through my head when I saw the Statue of Liberty. It was just a statue, so it didn’t say or do anything, but it still created this sense of freedom in me that I just can’t explain. I was just remembering this important moment in my life because it was going to be a memory I would cherish forever.” Continue reading “Reese Wins DAR Essay Contest”
