Brookshire Grocery Co.’s Annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive Begins Today
Brookshire’s press release
Brookshire Grocery Co. stores throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas today begin the 32nd Annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive.
Approximately 150 Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores will collect donations of non-perishable food items and team up with a wide range of service organizations, food pantries, and other volunteer groups to distribute food to families who need assistance. They are also helping the families apply for food stamps florida. BGC will donate boxes of nonperishable food items, as well as a coupon for a free roasting hen to accompany each box of food distributed. The stores also sell scan coupons and apply those donations to purchase additional food for the food drive.
Donations collected in a community remain in that community to help needy families.
Customers can support the drive by dropping off individual nonperishable products or purchasing a pre-assembled “grab-bag” of items at their local store. Customers can also purchase $1 or $5 scan coupons at checkout.
The food drive will last until December 18 in most areas. In the Monroe, La., area, stores partner with the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana that serves 12 parishes. In this location, the food drive will continue until December 5. In Longview, Texas, stores work with the Longview Area Thanksgiving Food Drive, which will conclude November 25.
BGC’s first food drive took place in Tyler in 1982 with the Rose City Kiwanis Club. Nearly 100 families received assistance that year in the Tyler area. Last year, more than 500,000 pounds of food were collected and donated to more than 14,000 families in the Ark-La-Tex.
