Dogwood Trails Camp Breaks Ground on New Lake

dogwoodAfter five years of planning and fundraising, Dogwood Trails Camp and Retreat Center in Larue broke ground on Saturday for a new lake. The camp is owned by Dogwood Trails Baptist Association, which is excited about the project and all that the Lord is doing at camp. Athens Pastor Dashes For Groceries at Brookshire’s

Dave McGee, pastor of Dogwood Church in Athens, won the Brookshire’s Thanksgiving Grocery Dash fundraiser for the Athens Christian Preparatory Academy (ACPA).

As the winner, Dave earned a $50 meat gift certificate plus as many groceries as he could gather in a 90-second dash through the store.

The dash took place Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Brookshire’s in Athens. Dave completed The Dash with help from his wife, Debra.

“We had a great time,” Dave said. “I made Debra do the running, but we had a great time.”

TVCC students Preparing to Canvass Community for Annual Food Drive

Trinity Valley Community College students have been partnering with the community in collecting canned goods around the Thanksgiving holidays for 35 years.

Your chance to be a part of this special outreach is fast approaching.

TVCC students will be out in full force to collect canned goods on Thursday, Nov. 20, beginning at 6 p.m. Students will be placed in groups of four to five and cover all major neighborhoods in Athens. Monarch Utilities to Distribute Thanksgiving Food Baskets

Monarch Utilities I, L.P., a subsidiary of SouthWest Water Company, is pleased to announce the third annual Project Wishbone-Thanksgiving basket giveaway. The program offers ready-to-cook food baskets to qualified Monarch customers who desire to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal this year, but may not be able to afford one.

On Thursday, Nov. 20, pre-registered Monarch customers in Henderson, Smith and Van Zandt counties will receive a box filled with everything needed to prepare a family dinner, including yams, green beans, cornbread stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, dessert and the customer’s choice of a turkey or ham.
