A generous group of ladies who live at Safari Waters Ranch donated $156 to the Hornet Backpack Program. Safari Waters is a gated community located about nine miles southeast of Athens. The donation-funded Hornet Backpack Program provides supplemental meals and snacks to children enrolled in Athens ISD whose primary source of food is the school cafeteria. The Lone Star Mower Racing Association is bringing its lawn mower races to the Henderson County regional Fair Park. This family fun event will be part of The Keep Athens Beautiful Home and Garden Event, Saturday, March 7, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Fair Park complex.

The Athens Public Education Foundation recently honored its original members during a Founders Luncheon. Founders present were (from left) Tere Lawyer, Charlie Tidmore, BJ Davies, Erv Jenkins, Sarah Grey and Colin Barrett. Other founders honored were Conor Bateman, Joe Warren, Judy Rutledge, Pat Basher, Lee Bush, Kenneth McGee, Chris Molina and Jerry Don Vaught. Since 2010, APEF has given over $100,000 in grants to support Athens ISD student programs, projects and initiatives that do not receive tax-based funding.
