Members of the Cedar Creek Lake Kiwanis Club recently returned from the 99th Annual Texas–Oklahoma District Convention held in Abilene, Texas. The following members attended Marty Mullins, Allison Greenville, and DeAnna Browning. The same served as voting delegates.
Fifteen years ago about now, a bunch of us, led by Dr. Glen Campbell, ventured out into the world of non-profit spay/neuter at Cedar Creek Lake … 38,000 surgeries later, we have become a force to be reckoned with!
Founded by Sandy Ward, Ed Busch and Sydney Busch, Friends of the Animals has so many wonderful volunteers and staff, plus the addition two-years ago of Dr. Robert Garcia to handle the non-surgical services from 10-2 and with the expansion of the space – well, we are a force! We have several volunteers and staff who have been with us since Day One: Joy Simmons, Janice Hunt, Lou Wiley, Leslie Kelly, and vet tech Holly Press.
We now know what has been a closely guarded inside-story about the upcoming Whiskers & Wags fundraiser. Of course, they will have tremendous auction items like a Hilton Grand Resort one week Vacation-2 bedroom Villa. These are accommodations in some of the most famed destinations in the world. And they have that autographed 2016 Dallas Cowboys team football and many other not-available-anywhere-else items.
Starting at 8 a.m. on May 6, hot rods, motorcycles, trucks, and people will start pouring into the Mabank Pavilion for the start of the popular Cedar Creek Lake Car Show & Kiwanis Krawfish Boil, hosted by the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Cedar Creek Lake. Also watch for the local Antique Tractor Club members coming in with their machines. The show is now in its 11th year.
The chamber will have breakfast food at the concession, the Chamber Grill Team will fire up the grill for burgers, and NEW this year, a Hawaiian grilled chicken delicacy cooked on a Big Green Egg. At the same time, the Cedar Creek Lake Kiwanis Club volunteers will be cooking crawfish and all the trimmings.
Held on the second Saturday of each month by Friends of the Animals, the next low-cost vaccination and microchip clinic for all area residents is on Saturday, January 14, from 10 a.m. – noon.
It will be held at the Friends’ clinic in the southeast corner of highways 198 and 334 in Gun Barrel City in the red brick office strip just behind and east of the Huddle House Restaurant. No appointment is necessary.
