CCL Day at the Legislature Scheduled

Texas_House_ChamberPress release

The 2015 Cedar Creek Lake Area Day at the Texas State Capitol will be February 3. The Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the trip and making the arrangements. The cost per person will be $90 for chamber members and $100 for non-members. The nominal fee includes bus transportation, snacks on the bus and lunch at the Doubletree Hotel. As in years past, the only out-of-pocket expense to participants is what they may choose to spend at the Capitol Gift Shop.

This one-day trip to the state capitol of Texas is a powerful opportunity to be part of a unified group representing the entire Cedar Creek Lake Area community, with recognition from the floor of the House and the Senate in the 84th Texas Legislature. Invitations are being extended to Senator Robert Nichols, Senator Bob Hall, State Representatives Stuart Spitzer and John Wray to join the Cedar Creek Lake delegation for lunch or at some point during the day if they’re unavailable for lunch. The chamber staff is working with Senator Nichols’ office on the arrangements. Continue reading “CCL Day at the Legislature Scheduled”

Panther Edition Entertains DAR

IMG_0112Once again the Sarah Maples Chapter of DAR were entertained by the Panther Edition. These kids have their routine down pat. They sing and dance and really seem to enjoy what they do, I know the members of Sarah Maples enjoy watching them. They have a budding magician in the group who kept members laughing with his tricks. The Gun Barrel City Assembly Rainbow Girls hosted their state leaders at their meeting on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Cedar Creek Lake Masonic Lodge. At their meeting, they honored Allison Fraze, Grand Worthy Advisor, their girl leader on the state level. In addition, they were pleased to also host Mrs. JoAnn Weaver, Supreme Deputy in Texas (adult leader on the state level), and her husband Bruce (Grand Executive Committee).

The Rainbow Girls performed a delightful honor program that was surfer themed with surfer songs to go with the Grand Worthy Advisor’s theme for the year–“Life is like surfing–so ride the wave.” After the meeting, the girls enjoyed a Christmas gift and ornament exchange, followed by a tasty lunch amid tropical beach decorations. Press release

The Sarah Maples Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution were honored to have three Cedar Creek Lake area residents come and tell us about their trip on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. John White had dozens of pictures that he had put together on slides to shown us and talk about the World War 11 memorial, and other memorials that they saw.

In 2005, a retired Air Force captain realized that veterans of World War II were unlikely to ever see their memorial on their own and and Honor Flight was born, taking 98,500 World War II veterans to see their memorial at absolutely no cost to the veterans. Their are still many who are physically able to make the trip, if only Honor Flight can locate them. Honor Flight’s mission has expanded to include Korean War veterans, and Honor Flight needs help finding them as well. Funding is private and guardians who accompany each veteran pay their own way for the privilege of spending a day with a living history treasure. Honor flight wants to give the gift a trip to Washington D.C. to every veteran of these wars who would not otherwise have a chance to see their memorials. Honor Flight is a gift to veterans, a tangible way to say thank you to the men and women who put their lives on hold for years in service to their country.
