Cain Center press release

The Cain Center is proud to welcome new Operations Manager Tara Rigby.

Tara moved to Henderson County at the end of June 2015 with her husband and two daughters. They moved to East Texas after spending nearly 12 years on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. They have been visiting the area since 2001 when they lived in the Nashville, Tenn. area, and have been feeling the call to move to the area since spring 2009. It just took this long for the Lord to line everything out for them to “come home to Texas!”

AMWA board approves parking, litter rules

Amwa logoAMWA press release

The Athens Municipal Water Authority (AMWA) Board of Directors voted unanimously to amend the Rules & Regulations Governing Lake Athens. These regulations act as the ordinances that the AMWA Police Department enforces at and surrounding Lake Athens. The three regulation additions pertain to the public space at the Lake Athens Marina:

  • No overnight camping is permitted on Authority property, including the area adjacent to the Lake Athens public boat ramps, under any conditions
  • Littering and dumping is strictly prohibited on all Authority property
  • Parking is allowed in designated areas only. Parking is expressly prohibited on unimproved areas below the 448 msl, except for emergency and Authority personnel.

These regulations have been put into effect to help preserve Lake Athens. Currently, the lake front along Marina Drive is experiencing sever erosion damage due to trucks and trailers being parked along the bank. Additionally, restricting parking access on the shoreline will help prevent accidental spillage of oils, gasoline and other harmful fluids into Lake Athens.

Litter is increasingly becoming an issue in the public spaces at the Lake Athens Marina. Please help keep trash and other foreign substances out of our lake, by using the provided trash receptacles.

All three new regulations will carry fines of up to $200. New enforcement signs will be installed prior to the holiday weekend. Enforcement of these regulation will begin immediately after the signs are installed.
