Come celebrate the fall with Lakeland House

Lakeland House in Athens would like to invite everyone to celebrate fall with them. The facility is holding a Fall Display Office, and invite people and offices to small display at the Lakeland House. The display cannot be larger than 3 feet x 3 feet at the base, and no taller than 6 feet. Contributions will be displayed through Nov. 29. Displays can be as creative as possible, but nothing scary (no blood-and-guts Halloween, please). The displays will be judged in a contest by friends and family on Oct. 25. Honoring Lorie Lee Travi

libraryOfficials and supporters came out Monday to honor Lorie Lee Travi, the former head librarian for the Henderson County Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library. Travi, who has accepted a position with the Dallas Public Library system, has been with the Athens library for seven years, the last three as the head librarian. Fall Hunter Rendezvous

The 2013 Fall Hunter Rendezvous is just a week away.

The event will be at the Texas Freshwater Fishery Center next Tuesday, Oct. 22, starting at 5 p.m.

Admission is free and there will be door prizes. Also $10 raffle tickets for a Remington Versa Maz, Semi-Auto, 12ga., Camo or Remington 700 CDL, Bolt 243, Santin Walnut. $10 each or six-for $50. Drawing to be held Oct. 22. Winner need not be present to be eligible.

Gardiner retires after 35 years of service at hospital

Debbie Gardiner is a woman full of energy, conviction and determination. And for 35 years, she has focused those qualities on serving the patients, friends and team members at the hospital in Athens.

When Gardiner returned to her hometown of Athens in 1978 to serve as director of the intensive care unit, that hospital was Henderson County Memorial. In 1986, she was part of the staff which transitioned from the old hospital to the new, state-of-the-art hospital a few miles down the road — then known as Lakeland Medical Center and now as ETMC Athens. In 1989, she was appointed director of risk management and performance improvement, a position she excelled at until her retirement this month. Continue reading “A good and faithful servant”
