Do you know what happens when you forget to put the eggs into brownie batter? The rest of the ingredients kind of just remain bubbly goo in the oven. At least this was my experience at the age of 9 when I omitted a very important part of the recipe. I’m proud to say the youth who took part in the Henderson County 4-H Food Show on Saturday, Jan. 23, prepared their entries to perfection. Participants chose a food group for which their recipe would highlight while also keeping in mind the 2016 Texas 4-H Food Show theme “Picnic Perfect”. Here is a run-down of the results:

Cross Roads students talk about 4-H

Members of the Cross Roads 4-H group Cassity Turner, Calista Turner and Colton Hemphill gave a presentation Wednesday morning to the 4th and 5th graders at Cross Roads Elementary. They took turns explaining what 4-H has to offer and how to get involved. The three of them had this idea to promote 4-H and they brought their idea and organized it with the school Principal Mrs. Sulak. Cross Roads 4-H members compete at the Henderson County 4-H Food Show

Members from the Cross Roads 4-H Club competed in the Henderson County 4-H Food Show this past weekend. Pictured left to right, Cassity Turner took 2nd place with her Venison Bacon Burger and a 1st place with her Place Setting. Bryce Parish took 1st place with his Homemade Fruit Roll-Ups and another 1st place in Place Setting. Colton Hemphill took 1st place with his Pulled Rabbit Sandwich and Calista Turner took 2nd place with her Banana Bread and a 1st with her Place Setting. Beef Cattle Committee installs officers

The Henderson County Beef Cattle Committee started 2016 off with its annual installation and awards banquet on Jan. 7. Adam Davis of Athens was installed as the 2016 Chairman of the 18-member committee. He will oversee the activities of the county-wide committee as they work towards developing educational programs designed to bring about solutions to problems common to the beef cattle industry.

Other officers installed to help direct the committee were Vice-Chairman Mike Bradshaw of Brownsboro, Secretary Laura Downe of Tennessee Colony and Treasurer Cliff Smith of Brownsboro. Korey Brown, Cory Collier and Adena Wilder all of Athens, Chuck Stone of Eustace, Wade Braddock of Malkaoff, Jason Fawns of Ben Wheeler and Sharon Adams of Palestine were installed as new members to assist the committee in various programs. Both the officers and new members were officially installed by Henderson County Leadership Advisory Board member Bob Miars of Murchison.

Davis said that the committee has several programs slated for this year including a Cattleman’s Cow-Calf Clinic, Forage Field Day Cow-Calf Roundtable, and a Winter Pasture Seminar.

Pesticide Applicator recertification class

Ag producers who are in need of continuing education units (CEU’s) in order to renew private or commercial pesticide applicators license, are invited to attend the annual Trinity Valley Ag Chemical C. E. U. Program on Friday, Dec. 18, at the Mabank Fire Station. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Six (6) continuing education units will be provided towards the recertification of private, commercial and non-commercial applicators license, if you are looking to hire a certified pest control specialist we recommend the pest control olathe ks services.
