With one week of the 2015-16 basketball season in the books, the 11th-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals are off to a fast start.
Fourth-year coach Kris Baumann’s squad went 3-0 in the Collin College Tournament in Plano. The Cardinals defeated Odessa, 79-76, Midland, 63-61, and Carl Albert, 66-61.
The Cardinals are scheduled to play their home opener Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Dodge City (Kan.) in the opening day of the Super 8 Classic. Saturday, the Cardinals will face Southwestern Christian at 7:30 p.m.
Against Odessa, Josh Robinson hit a deep three-pointer with four seconds left to give the Cardinals the win in their opener. Robinson led the Cardinals with 20 points. He was 4-of-8 from three-point range.
Hyron Edwards and Leon Gilmore also scored in double figures with 15 and 10, respectively.
Brandon Holley paced the Cardinals against Midland with 14 points, including five three-pointers. Robinson netted 12. Melvin Swift and Gilmore finished with eight each.
The Cardinals used a balanced scoring effort against Carl Albert with Josh Stamps leading the way with 13. Robinson had 12, Holley 11 and Edwards 10.
The Cardinals led 37-28 at the half.
