The Trinity Valley Community College Cardettes have an exciting month planned, beginning with a Collegiate Dance Workshop scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20.
The workshop, which coincides with Family Day at the college, will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union Building Ballroom. The workshop – which offers instruction and hands-on training from some of the finest and most experienced dancers and performers in the area – is for dancers age 16 and over. Collegiate-aged dancers are also welcome.
So why participate in the workshop?
“Because Cardettes are super cool, and why not come?” — Darla Mansfield
“This is a great opportunity for dancers to come learn from the incredibly talented group that we have here,” TVCC Cardette Director Darla Mansfield said. “But we also love these kinds of events because they’re not only useful for dancers right now, but they help us build a bridge to those who may later become Cardettes, themselves.”
Registration cost is $20 per person until Thursday, Sept. 18. After that time, the registration cost increases to $25 and will only be accepted at the door on the day of the workshop. All funds raised will be used for Cardette events.
Participants will spend 2 ½ hours learning collegiate-level tricks and tools of the trade from current Assistant Cardette Choreographer Sarah Cadungug and the 2014-15 Cardettes. Dance level will primarily be intermediate to advanced. A minimum of two to three years of experience is recommended in order to give all dancers proper time for individual instruction.
Workshop participants will be offered a campus tour and will also receive one complimentary ticket to the TVCC football game against Kilgore beginning that evening at 7 p.m. Various Family Day activities will be held outside the football stadium for workshop participants and their families to enjoy.
Reservations and payment can be made online at www.tvcc.edu/cardettes (under the Events tab). For more information about the workshop, contact the Cardette Office at 903-670-2641, 903-675-6225 or e-mail [email protected].
The Cardettes will wrap up the month showcasing their talent with the Cardinal Regiment band at the State Fair of Texas Parade on Sept. 26. The parade, which will wind through downtown Dallas, will begin at noon.
