The Athens City Council last week confirmed the hiring of Bonnie R. Hambrick as City Secretary to replace Pam Watson.
Watson is retiring at the end of the month after nearly 20 years as the City Secretary.
According to Hambrick, before being hired by the city she worked as a career adviser at Dynamic Workforce and CenturyLink Telephone Company for 18 years in various positions. She was previously employed at the City of AThens from 1986-1992 as a Billing Clerk.
Hambrick received her Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix in 2005.
She is active in civic and community organizations, including coordinating and participating in church activities. Previously she was a Snapdragon Mentor for Athens ISD, elections judge and a volunteer with Keep Athens Beautiful.
Hambrick said she “takes pride in her work and strives to enhance the welfare of citizens by providing professional and efficient service to all.”
Her favorite Bible scripture is Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NIV): ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’
She and her husband, Ronnie, have one son, Cameron, two Godsons, Cornelius and Brayden, and one Goddaughter, Madison Elise.
