ETMC Athens Auxiliary Hosts District 10 Convention

District10Convention

The District 10 convention for the Texas Association of Healthcare Volunteers (TAHV) was held recently in Athens. Members of the ETMC Athens Auxiliary hosted the meeting at the Cain Center, where over 100 guests attended, representing eight different hospitals from Texarkana to Atlanta.

The meeting opened with a welcome from Athens Mayor Jerry Don Vaught, followed by ETMC Athens Administrator Pat Wallace.

“I can’t imagine working as an administrator for a hospital … and not having the presence of the auxiliary. Thank you for what you do. You are all appreciated by your communities,” said Wallace.

TAHV President Fran Wyatt extended a special thanks to the ETMC Athens auxiliary members, saying “you all feel like home folk.” She went on to explain that her choice for the association’s theme this year being “For the Love of a Child” was born of her desire to wipe out child abuse.

The ETMC Athens Auxiliary members presented a video featuring auxiliary members and their relatives in the military, accompanied by Lee Greenwood’s song, “God Bless the USA.” During the presentation, audience members spontaneously rose to their feet and remained standing throughout the presentation — which ran the span of the song twice through. Many teary eyes were seen. Many thanks to Margie McDaniel for compiling the pictures and to vidico video animation studio for providing video production.

ETMC Athens Auxiliary members were singled out for the generosity of their nursing scholarships. Most hospital auxiliaries award scholarships in the $500 range, and none reported giving more than Athens members. Continue reading “ETMC Athens Auxiliary Hosts District 10 Convention”

All About Team at TVCC

Smiley

The TVCC Cardinals are 5-1 in conference play and wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the SWJCFC playoffs with a big 55-31 win against Tyler last Saturday.

What I liked best was Coach Brad Smiley’s description of his team following the game.

Smiley said: “It’s a team. We play so many guys … There’s no egos, it is all about team. Nobody cares who gets the credit. We play five different running back, we’ll have 13 – 14 guys catch passes. Everybody is involved, everybody is just having fun. Having fun being together.”

The Cardinals will finish the regular season against Southeast Prep at Bruce Field this Saturday starting at 3 p.m. … Then the playoffs begin. … At home.

According to CCLACC President, Jo Ann Hanstrom, plans are already under way for the 2014 Business Expo. Asked about future plans for the event, Hanstrom said, “With the first Expo behind us, the committee will be able to do a thorough assessment of the event, make adjustments and/or improvements where necessary. I’m excited that we’ll be bringing the Second Annual Cedar Creek Lake Fall Business Expo to the community next October.”

She went on to say that even though the chamber had sponsored such an event some years ago, this is a whole new venue and format, so it was like starting over and will need to rebuild. Having a new venue has greatly benefitted the attending businesses, giving them more room for their displays, trade show banner materials, and other booth marketing entities.
