Obituary: Dennis Ralph Womack

Dennis Ralph Womack, 60, of Eustace, was born on Oct. 3, 1952 in Weatherford to the home of Thomas Womack and Sonja Maria Meike Womack. He passed at his home on Feb. 7, 2013.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Marilou Syler Womack; children Chisum Womack and wife Erin, Forrest Womack and wife Jenny, Crockett Womack and wife Rachel, Stuart Womack and Seguin Womack; brother Jeffrey “Jeff” Womack and wife Iko; grandchildren Ann Womack, Rivers Womack, Nolan Womack and Augustine Womack.

Rosary services will be held at 8 pm on Friday, Feb. 15, at Moorhead Epps Memorial Chapel in Gun Barrel City. Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 16, 2013 at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Malakoff, with burial following at Mary Queen of Heaven Cemetery under the direction of Moorhead Epps Funeral Home.

McKee files for Eustace school board

PRESS RELEASE FROM ASHLEY ADAMS MCKEE

Local attorney and child advocate, Ashley Adams McKee, has announced her candidacy for the Eustace ISD School Board. Ashley filed paperwork with Eustace ISD as a candidate for place 6 which is currently held by board president Diane Russ. Russ, who has been on the board for over a decade, has indicated she is not seeking another term.

McKee is a 1994 graduate of Malakoff High school. Other than her time away to attend college and law school, she is a lifelong resident of the Cedar Creek Lake area. She is a graduate of Navarro Junior College, the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Wesleyan School of Law.

Ashley is married to District Attorney Scott McKee. Ashley and Scott live on Cedar Creek Lake with their three boys Stuart- 18, Ryan-7 and Ranger-5. Stuart, a senior, will attend Texas A&M University School of Engineering in the fall. Ryan and Ranger are students at the Eustace Primary School.

Ashley practices law in Henderson and surrounding counties with a focus on family law and the representation of abused and neglected children. She is also the Eustace All Sports Association Boy’s Kindergarten basketball coach, team mom for the K-2 Football team, current board member and president elect of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and a past president of the Henderson County Bar Association. “I have spent my entire career focused on the best interest of children” said McKee, “I have a passion for public service and advocating for kids.” McKee wants parents and educators to know that as someone who grew up in our community, she understands the challenges and opportunities available to our kids. “A quality education is a life changer. I want to encourage an expectation of excellence in our children. Ensuring the safety of our kids and teachers, while focusing on a 1st class education, will be my top priorities.”

Eustace ISD along with other local city and school board elections will occur on May 11th.

TVCC Sports Notes: Basketball sweep over Tyler

On the night Leon Spencer Court was dedicated, the Lady Cardinals and Cardinals swept a doubleheader against Tyler. The Lady Cardinals were an 86-45 winner and the Cardinals took a 64-57 decision.

The win improved the Lady Cardinals to 24-1 on the year and 11-0 in conference. The Cardinals raised their records to 16-9 and 7-7.

Shannon Smith led the Lady Cardinals with 20 points. Adut Bulgak had 15, Roddricka Patton and Savannah Carter 13 each and Victoria Wells 11. Krystle Henderson added eight.

The Cardinals were led by Tyler Corley’s 17 points. Karon Phillips had 10 and Carl Porter nine.

Both teams are scheduled to be in action again Wednesday at Kilgore. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL

The Lady Cardinals went 3-3 in the Cow Town Tournament in Fort Worth over the weekend to move their season record to 5-4.

In action Friday, the Lady Cardinals fell to Cowley, 12-3, and Butler, 10-3, and defeated Cisco, 10-1. Saturday, they defeated Western Oklahoma, 5-4, and Odessa, 3-2, and lost to Weatherford, 9-7.

The Lady Cardinals had 53 hits during the tournament.

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to be back in action Tuesday in Waco against McLennan. Doubleheader action begins at 1 p.m.
