Obituary: Michael Aaron Magrill

Michael Aaron Magrill, 32, of Murchison, was born in Eustace on Aug. 8, 1980 to the home of Michael Galen Magrill and Mary Belle Tow. He passed away on Feb. 13, 2013.

He is preceded in death by his bother, Bryan Holman and grandparents, Ike and Robbie Tow and Ed Peeler.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Alisha Magrill; sons, Ryan and Hunter Magrill; parents, Mike Magrill and Mary Hancock and husband Royal; brother, Chano Preciado; sisters, Robbie Preciado, Lisa Rojos, Leighann Pena and husband Joey, Kathryn Holman; grandmother, Ruth Peeler; cousins, Sherri and Toni Oaks; aunt and uncle, Karen and Tom Helzer, and uncle Johnny Magrill, and many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Zion Hill Church, officiated by Pastor Don Herring and Pastor John Kling.

Obituary: Maycie Lavelle and Maggie Marie Alexander

Maycie Lavelle and Maggie Marie Alexander, of Kemp, were born on Feb. 15, 2013 to the home of Damian Alexander and Ashley Easterly, and passed away that same day of Feb. 15, 2013.

They are preceded in death by their grandparents, Lavelle and John Easterly, Diane Alexander, and Teresa Hank.

Left to cherish their memory are their parents; grandparents, Charles and Lori Easterly, Ralph and Sandi Johnson; great-grandparents, Geneva Martin, Dale Cox and Thomas Alexander; uncles, Christopher Easterly, Clay Easterly and Jarred Johnson; aunts, Kellie Easterly, Mercedes Alexander, and Brooklyn Johnson.

Obituary: Donald L. Ellis

Donald L. Ellis of Athens passed away on Feb. 18, 2013 in Athens at the age of 75.

Donald was born on May 6, 1937 in Lyman, Iowa to Claude and Gail L. Hoyt Ellis. He was employed at Cross Roads Independent School District for 13 years.

He is survived by his companion, Carolyn Kuhn; sons, Eugene and wife Sharon Ellis of Murchison, Ronald and wife Lisa of Murchison, David and wife Betty Ellis of Groesbeck, Richard and wife Judy Ellis of McKinney, Mark and wife Jessie Ellis of Cross Roads; sister, Donna Blackwell; brother, Davis Ellis; 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura Richards Ellis; brother, Dennis Ellis; grandson, Mickie Lee Ellis; and granddaughter, Lori Mae Ellis.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 20, from noon to 2 p.m. at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home, Malakoff.

Service will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating. Graveside service will be Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at Post Oak Cemetery with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating.

Heart N Sole 5K results released

The inaugural Heart N Sole 5K held at the Cain Center Saturday, Feb. 16, drew 126 runners and was deemed a success by organizers, who also thanked race sponsors Crestway Park Dental and Athens ENT. They also thanked Brookshire’s, which provided fruit and chocolate for the fountain.

TVCC Sports Notes: Lady Cards split double header

A doubleheader split against Hill College Tuesday night at Cain Park moved the Lady Cardinals’ season record to 12-6.

The Lady Cardinals prevailed 5-0 in Game 1 and fell 7-6 in Game 2.

Erica Jordan slammed a three-run home run in the first game to spark the Lady Cardinals.

In the second game, Marci Seymour, Shelby Reddington, Celeste Montoya and Candise Wise had two hits each. Montoya and Wise each drove in a run.

The Lady Cardinals carried a five-run lead into the top of the seventh inning.

Coach Ashley Johnston’s squad is scheduled to travel Saturday to Lufkin to play Angelina in a doubleheader. Action begins at 1 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The No. 1-ranked Lady Cardinals go after a 42nd straight Cardinal Gym win today against Angelina at 5:30 p.m. The game will be webcast on the Cardinal Sports Network at www.tvcc.edu.

The Lady Cardinals are 26-1 on the year and 13-0 in conference. Angelina is 16-11 and 8-5.

The Lady Cardinals were an 86-60 winner against Angelina earlier this season in Lufkin.

The Lady Cardinals have an open date Saturday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Cardinals take to the road tonight, going to Carthage to face Panola. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Cardinals are 16-10 on the season and 7-8 in conference. Panola is 8-18 and 0-16.

Last month at Cardinal Gym, the Cardinals rolled to an 80-59 win against Panola.

The Cardinals are scheduled to be at home Saturday against Paris at 4 p.m. The Cardinal Sports Network will webcast the game.

REGION XIV TOURNAMENT

In case you missed the announcement last week, the dates of the Region XIV Basketball Tournament have been changed to Tuesday-Saturday, March 5-9.

The event will be held on the campus of UT Tyler.
