An Athens man was shot and suffered a head wound Thursday night, according to Athens police. The man was transported to ETMC Tyler where he was awake and talking with officers Friday.
Police Chief Buddy Hill said the department received a call about 6:50 p.m. Thursday from ETMC Athens that Corey Bell, 33, had been driven to the hospital in a private vehicle with a suspected gunshot wound to the head.
Bell was transported from Charlie Street in Athens where police believe the shooting occurred.
Hill said the bullet apparently glanced off Bell’s head and did not penetrate his skull.
“Millimeters made the difference between life and death (for Bell),” Hill said.
Hill said police have not determined motive as of Friday and that the investigation continues. Anyone with any information regarding the shooting should call Detective Marshall Passons at 903-675-5454.
