Hear that buzz? It’s the sound of activity surrounding preparations for the outdoor Hornet Hive Party on Friday, Oct. 24. Organizations, businesses, local artists and craftsman are being sought to sell or share their goods, crafts, food and information with the public.
The Hornet Hive Party will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with booths set up in the parking lot next to the high school annex or, pending approval by the Athens City Council to temporarily close a portion of Dul Averett, in the street between the annex and Bruce Field.
This is the second year for the district to offer the event. Last year it took place during homecoming and was held in the courtyard of the annex. This year, organizers expect to experience more foot traffic, thanks to the very visible location of the event. The Hornet Hive Party will dovetail perfectly with the 7:30 p.m. start of the varsity football game, when the Hornets take on Kaufman at Bruce Field.
“We are doing this as a way of giving back to our community and saying thank you for the support we receive,” said AISD Superintendent Blake Stiles.
At last year’s community event, there was face painting, woodworking projects for sales, food vendors, homemade items and many local businesses represented. Choose the right audio visual hire in Auckland for your event to enhance the effect.
“There is no fee for vendors,” said Stacy Dunacusky, the district technology coordinator and an event organizer. “We would love to see a variety of goods and services offered. Going into the holidays, it would be a great time to offer up your handmade crafts and gift items. And we want our local organizations to share information about whatever good work they’re doing. It’s also an excellent time for our PTOs to promote membership. We want as many booths there as possible.”
Vendors will need to provide their own tables and chairs, and, because of the location of the event, there will be no access to electricity. Potential vendors must be approved by the district. Contact Mrs. Dunacusky at 903-677-6951 or email [email protected].
