Athens FFA press release
Over the past three weeks, member of the Athens FFA Chapter have exhibited their livestock projects at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Members of our show team did a wonderful job and the hard work and dedication that went into raising beef projects definitely paid off.
During the week of Jan. 24-30, four exhibitors showed their Jr. Breeding Beef Heifers at the stock show. In the Shorthorn breed, Jr FFA Member, Sarah Rimpel placed 7th and her sister, Jr. FFA Member, Shae Rimpel, placed 2nd in her limousin breed class. In an “Invitation Only-Limi Blowout”, Shae placed 1st with her limousin heifer.
In the Brahman breed, Athens FFA President Tanner Chaote placed 6th with her brahman heifer.
Casey Pitchford exhibited his Santa Gertrudis cattle in both the Jr. Breeding Beef and Open Breeding Beef shows. In the Jr. show he placed 4th in his class and won a buckle in the Showmanship class. In the open classes, Casey had a 1st in Cow/Calf Class, two 2nds, a 3rd place, and won his yearling class.
Athens FFA Treasurer Seth Rimpel exhibited his chianina cattle in the junior and open show Jan. 31- Feb 2 and placed very well in all his classes. In the junior show, Seth brought home two 1st place ribbons and a 6th place, and in the open show, Seth placed 8th in one class, 1st place in 2 classes, and brought home a Division Champion banner.
Both Seth Rimpel and Paden Quade exhibited Jr. Steers at the Ft Worth Stock Show Feb 4-7, which had a record number of Jr Steer Entries. Seth and Paden exhibited well but returned home with their steers for county. Seth Rimpel participated in the Calf Scramble at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Friday night and was successful in catching a calf for the 2nd year in a row, and will receive a certificate for $500 to aid in purchasing a heifer for next year’s show.
