Press Release
The public is invited to attend Art on the Bricks at The Texan this Saturday, June 16th, from 5 to 8 pm. This special event is a community-based fundraiser that’s sponsored and hosted by the City of Athens as a way to recognize and honor the historic presence of The Texan Theater and celebrate its revitalization, while simultaneously raising awareness for the fine arts of Athens.
“We are thrilled to host this event that will help bolster the local arts community here in Athens and Henderson County,” said Adrianna Hinds, Community Services Coordinator for the City of Athens. “Please join us to purchase a piece of The Texan and enjoy an evening of art and culture.”
100 youth, amateur and professional artists have painted historic bricks from the original Texan Theater to be exhibited as an art installation and sold individually. The top 3 winners of each category will be sold in a silent auction. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Art Gallery 211, a non-profit community art gallery for the promotion, education, and support of fine arts in the Athens community and surrounding area.
Patrons can come and go and enjoy wine, donated by Come and Take It, heavy appetizers, and jazz music performed by the TVCC Jazz Ensemble. There is no entry fee.
Join us for a celebratory evening at The Texan and support our local art community.
The Texan is located downtown at 209 E. Tyler St. For questions, please contact City Hall at 903.675.5131 or e-mail [email protected]. For additional and future event information, visit www.thetexanathens.com.
