Have you ever heard of a hair salon-art gallery venue? That’s right, a hair salon that includes developed art exhibition space? Believe it or not Athens has two salon/art venues in Agape Salon (next to Julio’s Chicken on. N. Tyler St.) and Zen and Beauty Salon (1 block North of the Square, across the street from the Athens Museum)!
Json Hart, owner of Zen and Beauty Salon, is so committed to art that he named area abstract artist, Carolyn Ellis, Zen and Beauty Salon Artist in Residence before even opening Z&B earlier this year. A huge fan of Ellis’ artwork, Json is sponsoring an Art Gala at Zen and Beauty Salon, Saturday, August 8, from noon to 3 p.m., which promises to be a terrific event.
In addition to showing off Ellis’ big bold abstracts and thought provoking graphic work at the Gala, a select group of other local artists, a family farm from Payne Springs displaying produce they grow, and Tara Winery will also be part of the August 8 event. Light refreshment and music will also be on-hand!
If you enjoy abstract art, Zen and Beauty’s Art Gala – Saturday, August 8, noon to 3pm, across the street from Athens Museum – is a clear and certain must-see for you! If you find abstract art confusing, or even a total waste, come on down and get a tour and explanation of Ellis’ work and find out, right from the artist herself, what abstract art is all about! Children welcome! (Free boxes of crayons to first children to ask for them!)
