The Athens Economic Development Corporation on Wednesday voted unanimously to add $25,000 to a fund for improvements to Coleman and Cain parks.
The project has been spearheaded by Chris Tinsley, who is the president of the city’s Parks Board, and includes a new concession plaza at Coleman Park and improvements to the fields at Cain Park.
Chris told the AEDC board that private donations plus insurance money from when the previous concession stand burned down equals about $250,000 (not including the AEDC money).
He said he believes the project will take between $300,000 and $325,000.
We want to say congratulations to Chris. This is a great project and there has been a lot of hard work involved in getting to this point. We feel confident this project will get done and will be a benefit to the city.
We also say good job AEDC board … stepping up to the plate for $25,000 was the right thing to do.
Chris spoke to the Athens Chamber of Commerce last month about the project and Kathi Nailling of the Athens Review was there. I suggest her story to anyone wanting to learn more.
