Trinity Valley Community College’s Community Services Department will sponsor a series of “Fundamentals of Retirement” seminars beginning this fall in Athens, Palestine, Terrell and Emory.
The seminars will be led by Perry Conner and Adam Thompson of Rose Point Capital Advisors in Tyler. The four week-course will cover the following topics:
Week One – Introduction/Protection
- Roadblocks to financial security
- Budgeting and tracking
- Types of insurance
- Choosing the right savings strategy
- Saving alternatives
Week Two – Retirement Income Sources
- Social Security system
- Pension plans
- Lump sum distributions
Week Three – Investment Consideration
- Rules for successful living
- Stocks and bonds
- Tax-advantaged investments
Week Four – Long-Term Care
- Introduction to long-term care
- Cost of healthcare
- Cost of nursing facility
Sessions dates and locations are: Palestine on Oct. 14, Oct. 21, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Terrell on Oct. 16, Oct. 23, Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 from 6-8 p.m.; and Athens on Nov. 11, Nov. 18, Nov. 25 and Dec. 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dates and locations for Emory are to be announced. Cost is $30 for all four sessions.
