Funeral services for Virgil “Worm” King, 70, of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Pastor Chuck Hinton officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.
Mr. King passed away on August 3, 2014 in Athens, Texas.
Virgil Larrie King was born November 14, 1943, in Plainview, Texas the son of Virgil Larue King and Margarie Lillian McClain King. He was a member of the Athens Church of God and a farmer. He was a Master Welder with Phillips Oil Company and then with Folgers Coffee Company where he retired. He enjoyed building things and truly loved his Blue Grass music. Worm was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by all he knew and loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24years, Patricia Grubbs King of Athens; two sons, Terry Wayne Grubbs and wife Theresa of Kemp, Robert Arlie Hall and wife Louise of Murchison; one daughter, Tammy Hall of Longview; a brother Lonnie Gene King; a sister Nelda Lorene King; four grandsons and three great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Arlie Hall, Terry Grubbs, Justin West, Ernie Grubbs, Kenneth Grubbs and Clint Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest and Joyce Grubbs, Louise Hall, Tammy Hall,
Anne Graham and Katie West.
The family will visit with friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
