Texas Hunger Initiative (THI) is a collaborative, capacity-building project focused on ensuring that every Texan has access to three nutritious meals a day, seven days a week. Our Texas Hunger Initiative team works to develop and implement strategies to end hunger through research, policy, education, community organizing and community development. Headquartered within the Baylor University School of Social Work with 12 regional offices across the state, THI convenes federal, state and local government stakeholders with nonprofits, faith communities and business leaders to create an efficient system of accountability that increases food security in Texas.

Please join Texas Hunger Initiative –Tyler Regional Office and Lil Angel’s Giving Back to the Community at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, for their first Summer Meals Program Kickoff celebration at Lil Angel’s Giving Back to the Community, 801 North Prairieville Street, Athens.

Free summer meals that meet federal nutrition guidelines will be provided for all kids and teens ages 18 and younger “Qualification Not Need.”

Don’t miss this fun-filled family event! Carnival games, horseback rides, music, community informational packets, health education informational packets, public health informational packets, and public awareness informational packets and much more!

Summer is a critical time for children’s academic and physical well-being. During the summer, children are at a higher risk of both obesity and hunger.

The following approved sites in Athens, will be serving summer meals for all kids and teens 18 and younger:
