MABANK — The First United Methodist Church of Mabank will celebrate their 23rd annual Lord’s Acre Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 13th, 2018, at the church, located at 501 South Third Street in Mabank. The Lord’s Acre Festival, named for the custom of farmers years ago who would dedicate an acre of land to the Lord and bring the produce raised on that acre to sell at a festival, has become a successful fundraiser that supports the church’s ministry to the youth of the Cedar Creek Lake area. Student ministry director Olivia Pannell is in her 1st year of working with area youth and has lots of great new ideas. The teens that attend weekly during our mid-week gathering on Wednesday nights are a diverse group and they are all building lasting relationships in faith.
The Lord’s Acre festivities will kick off with Gospel Night under the tent Thursday evening October 11th at 6 pm. The tent is set up behind the church for a great evening of singing old-time Gospel music. We will have handouts of all the songs available for everyone to follow along. We will also have several songs performed by the Jubilation 5 group. Our music ministry director Aaron Strum has a great evening planned. Won’t you please join us for an evening of fun and fellowship as we Lift Our Voices unto the Lord.
The evening will begin with a Chili Supper so come hungry. There are always many different types of Chili so there’s bound to be at least one just right for you. We also have chips, cornbread, cheese & other fixings.
Lord’s Acre Festival will open at 9 am Saturday morning October 13th. Kid’s activities, including a bounce house, train ride and games will be from 9-noon. The Country Store, including homemade baked goods, crafts, plants, Christmas gifts and decor will also be from 9-noon. The Silent auction including gift certificates for local businesses and travel will be from 9-noon and the live auction will be held from 1-3. Don’t miss the FREE (donations are appreciated) BBQ lunch from 11-1.
The culmination of our Lord’s Acre week is the Sunday Service ‘Under The Tent’. On Sunday, October 14th at 10 am our youth will lead a morning service. Our program youth spend a lot of time and effort putting together this service. It includes a lot of contemporary singing as well as testimony from several of the young people involved in our youth program. It is truly inspiring to see so many of the kids from the Lake area involved in and enjoying spreading the love of Jesus Christ.
You know that old saying ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ Here is our story @ FUMC Mabank student ministry and here is our student’s mission statement: “Where youth will experience for themselves a life-changing relationship with God through Jesus Christ that is reflected in a life committed to service. Come be a part of this Amazing Journey called Life.”
