Obituary: Timmy Lee Morrison

Timmy Lee Morrison was born May 12, 1973, in Tyler, Texas, and died in an accident on October 15, 2017 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Timmy was a resident of Katy, Texas recently, but was raised in Athens, Texas and considered Athens his home.

Tim was a remarkable man and loved by everyone that ever met him. He was a great husband to his wife Erika whom he adored. He was a “Super Daddy” to his three children that owned his heart. He was actively involved in the children’s daily lives from coaching and cheering his son in sports to painting his girl’s nails and doing their hair. He became a man that loved pink the day his girls were born! Anyone that knew Tim would say that he was full of life and he lived each day unselfishly. He had a kind, loving spirit and a heart of gold.

Tim attended school in Athens, Texas and was an avid golfer. He played for the Athens High School Team and received a golf scholarship from Texas Tech University and played golf until his golf started interfering with his education. While at Texas Tech, Tim served as chairman of College Chapters in Texas for the board of Ducks Unlimited. Tim graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.

He entered into the Oil & Gas Industry upon graduation, and began his career as District Manager of Haliburton Energy Services in New Mexico. His career preceded him and led him back to Texas as Chief Operating Officer for Cox Oil, LLC, in Dallas, Texas. He moved to Houston in 2009, and became President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board for Gravis Oil, then Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Operations with Platinum Energy Solutions. Tim was an asset to every company and left with friends rather than just business associates. Tim’s words stated exactly were “ I am committed to every project that I undertake with a no quit, hands on ownership to succeed. I am committed personally to the success of every project. I hold myself just as accountable as those I am managing.”

Tim was baptized as an infant and grew up in the First Presbyterian Church of Athens. He still lovingly considers that his home Church. There is lots of laughter in the memories of him growing up there. Tim was quite “busy” growing up and each week as they asked whose birthday it was, Tim was always the first to have his hand up every week. Pastor Bill McNatt started to say “ whose birthday is it besides Tim.” His family is recently attending Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church in Katy. Tim and his brothers are 6th generation members of First Presbyterian Church in Athens.

Tim is survived by his wife Erika and his son, John Patrick and daughters Adriana and Katherine all residing in Katy, Texas. He is also survived by his Mother, Janie Cole of Athens, his father John Morrison of Blackjack, brother Michael “Mo” Morrison and wife Ginger of Athens, brother Dan Morrison of Katy and sister Judy McPherson and husband Jim McPherson of Athens. Tim is loved by numerous nieces and nephews that adored him. He has been lovingly adopted into his wife’s sweet family.

Tim was preceded in death by his “Pop” Joel Cole, his nephew Rance Hood, his maternal grandparents Lois and Giles Snowden and his paternal grandparents William (Bud) and Henrietta Morrison.

Honorary pallbearers are Brad Cox, Phillip Albright, Johnny Whitrock, Matt Moncla, Charlie Moncla, Josh Verde, Steve Muns, Jeff Wallace, Jeff Dwelle, Jack Jamison, Damon Donnell, Hugo Aguilar, Mike Meeham, Colin Nichol, Richard Delgado, Paul Ingram, Erik Perkins, Daryl Lunceford, Dusty Godwin, Canyon Lindley , Tony Cao and Chris Hester.

The family will receive visitors at First Presbyterian Church, Athens Fellowship Hall on Sunday October 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. and a Memorial service will follow at 3:00 P.M. there at the Church under the direction of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Presbyterian Children’s Home or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
