Once again, all campuses at Athens ISD have “met standard,” as determined by the preliminary results from the 2016 Texas Education Agency accountability ratings — also known as STAAR.
“I”m pleased with these results and anxious to see how many distinctions we receive in September (when more detailed official results are released). I expect we’ll do well,” said AISD Superintendent Blake Stiles.
Public schools in Texas receive one of three ratings: met standard, met alternate standard or improvement required. In order to meet standard, a school must satisfy criteria in areas such as student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps and postsecondary readiness. Athens ISD has done that at all three elementary campuses, the middle school and high school, securing a districtwide “met standard” label.
“Today we can celebrate our collective successes,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims. “We will begin the new school year from a strong and positive position.”
Students return to class Monday, Aug. 22.
