The life blood of any community is that of the members of the community and those who are involved with the organizations that help make the community strong. Volunteers are the members of the community that establish, manage, operate and sustain a great number of organizations in our community. It is these service organizations that make Athens the strong community that it is, without the volunteer the city in more than one case, would find itself having to pick up the services that are provide.
Keep Athens Beautiful President Peggy Rhodes is heading a search committee to four new board members. The board members will need to have an interest in the continued upkeep and beautification of Athens. Board members are asked to serve on committees, help in the development and operations of special events.
Mission and History
The guidelines for the new KAB board members are:
- Live or conduct business in the Athens
- Be concerned with the appearance of the Athens Community to Tourism and Citizens alike
- Have a practical knowledge of financial and organizational skills.
- Have established relationships within the Athens community
- Able to attend monthly meeting and participate in projects and events throughout the community
Rhodes, former school board member, YMCA board member and co-owner of Phoenix Landscape Services in Athens, said, “Anyone is invited to discuss with us their ability to serve on the KAB board, our board is not limited to members of the Athens community. We want anyone who may be interested in Athens but not relevant to where someone lives, a nomination of someone may be passed along to the Keep Athens Beautiful office by calling 903-675-7961 or call Peggy at 903-675-3719. Keep Athens Beautiful is a vital organization to the City of Athens.
Keep Athens Beautiful is an established non-profit organization designed to support the cleanliness and beautification of Athens through sponsoring educational programs, developing community awareness through clean-ups and providing volunteer opportunities.
Keep Athens Beautiful is concerned with the quality of life in our community, though the years Keep Athens Beautiful has invested the time and talents of volunteers working with education programs for our youth and planning for the future to insure and improve the quality of life in Athens.
