Gooden takes back seat from Spitzer

It is official, Lance Gooden is headed back to Austin after beating incumbent District 4 State Rep. Dr. Stuart Spitzer by just under 1,000 votes in the Republican primary election Tuesday night.

Gooden, who lost the seat to Spitzer two years ago, won in both Henderson and Kaufman counties.

Gooden received 6,154 votes in Henderson County and 8,346 votes in Kaufman County for a total of 14,500.

Spitzer received 5,686 votes in Henderson County and 7,816 votes in Kaufman County for a total of 13,502.

Early Wednesday morning, Gooden thanked his supporters on Facebook.

“We won!,” he wrote. “Your votes will deliver effective conservative representation to Austin. Thank you for supporting us on this journey!”
