Henderson County 4-H Food Show results

2016 Food Show Participants

By Kate Pittack/Extension 4-H Agent

Do you know what happens when you forget to put the eggs into brownie batter? The rest of the ingredients kind of just remain bubbly goo in the oven. At least this was my experience at the age of 9 when I omitted a very important part of the recipe. I’m proud to say the youth who took part in the Henderson County 4-H Food Show on Saturday, Jan. 23, prepared their entries to perfection. Participants chose a food group for which their recipe would highlight while also keeping in mind the 2016 Texas 4-H Food Show theme “Picnic Perfect”. Here is a run-down of the results:

In other 4-H project area updates, our Robotics group continues to meet to practice building and programming our EV3 Lego Robots. There is a 4-H GEAR Robotics Contest held in May that we are preparing for. We always welcome new participants (and volunteers to help!) so even if you haven’t attended one of our Robotics meetings previously you can come and check one out. Our next meeting will be in February. If you’re interested please let me know and I can get you on my contact list.

Another event that happens in the spring is our Henderson County 4-H Roundup. Roundup is a group of contests that include: Educational Presentations, Public Speaking, Share the Fun and Clothing/Fashion. I will be hosting a workshop on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Henderson County Sr. Citizens Center (right next to the fairgrounds in Athens) to introduce some of these projects and have some hands-on activities to help anyone who wants to participate prepare for the actual contest(s). If you plan to attend please let us know so we can have plenty of supplies on hand.
