We first reported about this a couple of weeks ago.

The grant is worth about $9,000 and will pay for a roll-off receptacle to collect glass for recycling, changing out the receptacle, and for an education piece to be designed by Keep Athens Beautiful.

“Keep Athens Beautiful is very pleased that our partnership with the city resulted in a grant from the East Texas Council of Governments to provide a container at the city collection site for the citizen of Athens the opportunity to recycle glasses,” said Keep Athens Beautiful Executive Director Carol Morton. “The biggest question we get is, ‘Why can’t we recycle glass or where can we recycle glass.’ Now we will have an option for them.”
