And the rain continues as of Saturday morning.
Henderson County Now readers have reported rainfall totals of up to 16 and 18 inches around the county, and while there seemed to be little damage overnight, the continued downpour began taking its toll by mid morning.

As the water rises, so does the danger.
Athens City Administrator Philip Rodriguez said, “We’re concerned first of all with everyone’s safety. Water is very powerful in this type of storm. We want to remind people, to ‘turn around, don’t drown’ and to stay far away from moving currents. There’s lots of rain coming down right now, and it’s not easy to know just how deep it is before you attempt to cross it.”
Pct. 2 Commissioner Wade McKinney said, “Water is high in all the usual and in some cases unusual areas. Damage assessments are currently under way. We believe we are in good shape. If you encounter high water turn around and find another route.”
