Obituary: Lola Anita Shelton Welch

welchlolaServices for Lola Anita Shelton Welch are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2015 at Carroll- Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Upchurch officiating. Interment will follow in Becks Chapel Cemetery.

Lola passed peacefully into eternity Oct. 15, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Welch, her parents George W. And Viola Boyd Shelton, her sister Jimmie Lou Bevel and husband John Henry Bevel, Jr., nephew Larry Harvey, grand-nephew Wesley Harvey, uncles George Amos Boyd and William J. Boyd, and more than 40 cousins and friends too numerous to count.

Lola was born Feb. 5, 1922 at Cross Roads in Henderson County. A 1940 graduate of Cross Roads High School, Lola was always interested in and supportive of the school and was current historian of the Cross Roads ISD Alumni Association. Following retirement in 1984 from Hollywood Vassarette in Athens, she pursued her lifelong interests in reading, crochet, quilting, cooking, travel, and family and community history. She was interested in all cultures and was deeply proud of her Cherokee heritage.

Lola is survived by her children Don Casey, Anita Lynn Casey, Bill D. Casey and wife Annette; stepson Bobby Wayne Welch and wife Jackie; grandchildren Kimberly Casey Cobb and husband Darrell, Timothy J. Casey and wife Karen, Leah Casey Booth and husband Jason, and Lauren A. Casey; step grandchildren Wayne, Larry, Suzanne, and Raymond Welch; great-grandson Harrison Anthony Booth; nieces Patricia Bevel Harvey and Sandra Bevel; nephew Johnny D. Bevel and wife Carolyn, as well as numerous extended family members.

Visitation for family and friends will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Lola requested contributions be made to the Cross Roads High School Scholarship Fund.
