Athens Mayor Jerry Don Vaught read a proclamation for United States Constitution Week at Monday night’s regular City Council Meeting.
On September 17, 1787, after four months of intense debate, 39 delegates to the Federal Constitution Convention assembled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to announce the signing of the Federal Constitution of the United States of America.
Remembering the week of September 17, 1787 each year is necessary and proper to remind the citizens of Athens, Texas of the creation of this most important document in the history of our “beloved” country, the United States of America.
