A memorial service for Gene Gresham, 89, of Athens is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Kyle Henderson and Rev. Joe Wood officiating. Private burial will precede the service.
Mr. Gresham passed away June 20, 2015 in Athens.
He was born September 23, 1925 in Roscoe to Minor Eugene and Elizabeth Mae Misso Gresham. Gene grew up in Abilene. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He was a graduate of Texas Tech and a teacher 20 years in Big Spring before retiring to Athens. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church. Gene loved farming. He was a pilot, artist and woodworker. He was in Kiwanis 34 years serving as Lieutenent Governor two different years in Oklahoma and Texas. Gene was a loving husband, father and Dado.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Jo Gresham of Athens; sons Edgar Gresham and wife Dallas of Jacksonville, Carl Gresham and wife Dee of Rowlett; daughters Kathrine Lackey and husband Joyal of Frankston, Elizabeth Hart and husband Nathan of Chandler; grandchildren Brandis Hancock, Gene Jones, Jeremy Pope, Christy Godwin, Stephen Gresham, Cynthia Watson, Misty Chumbley, Katie Gresham and Matt Gresham; 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Andrews Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
