Services for Daniel Ray Tramel, 95, of Athens are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Upchurch and Rev. Gordon McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Point Cemetery in Navarro County.
Ray passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Oakwood Place Assisted Living in Athens.
He was born September 24, 1919 in Bazette to Robert and Eunice Albritton Tramel. Ray was a member of First Baptist Church of Cross Roads. He had loved singing all his life. Ray was an outstanding athlete and excelled in all sports. He had a life long love of baseball-especially the Rangers. Ray proudly served in the 36th Division during World War II. He fought in Northern Africa and Europe. Ray and all three of his brothers served in the war. Upon his discharge from the Army Ray went to work for Humble Oil and Refinery in New London in July 1945. He retired in 1980 from Exxon.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Beatrice (Soape) Tramel, parents Rob and Eunice (Albritton) Tramel, three brothers Robert A. Tramel, Hobson E. Tramel, Joe D. Tramel.
Ray is survived by his loving family: daughters Sandra Epperson and husband Sam, Raynell Johnson and husband Rodney; grandchildren Beth Ballow Neu, Dusty Dickerson, Beverly McDaniel and Aimee Johnson; great grandchildren Coleman McMichael, Bree Wicker, Jonah and Noah Johnson, Nick, Hope and Isaiah McDaniel; great great grandchildren Lilly McMichael and Hadlei Harris.
Pallbearers will be Bob Tramel, Johnnie Tramel, Donnie Soape, Jonah and Noah Johnson and Jerry Soape.
Ray loved the great outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
