Payne Springs PD Stop Leads to Arrest, Stolen Vehicle

On May 27, Assistant Chief Dan Huckabee with the Payne Springs Police Department made traffic stop on a black 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo at the 13000 Block State Highway 198 located in the City of Payne Springs for Defective Equipment (No Brake Lights). Huckabee made contact with a male driver who was later identified as Shawn Dyvene Smith. During the stop, Smith became nervous and would avoid eye contact with Huckabee. Upon a computerized search of the license plate the vehicle came back stolen out of Maryville, Tennessee. Also a local search of active warrants revealed five active warrants out of the Payne Springs Police Department. Smith was later transported to the Henderson County Jail and booked in for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and the five active warrants.
