Athens High School will have several students competing at the regional level of UIL academic competition. They are (bottom row, from left) Mollie Davies, Jacob Moore, Lydia Strand, Walt Mahmoud, and (top row, from left) True Head, Matthew Hernandez, Michael Pulver, Eli McCool and Jacob Ickes. The math team took first in three categories: general math, number sense and calculator applications. Team members are Davies (second in number sense, first in calculator and third in general math), McCool (third in calculator and first in general math), Mahmoud (fourth in number sense and fourth in calculator), and Moore. Not pictured is team member Jonathan Bywaters (first in number sense, second in calculator and fourth in general math). The speech team won second place, with Strand placing first in prose, Head and Hernandez placing second and third, respectively, in informative speaking, and Pulver placing second in persuasive speaking.
