Funeral services for Guy Smith, 68, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March, 13, 2015 at First Baptist Church Malakoff with Pastors Nathan Lorick and Jody Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Malakoff Cemetery.
Guy Smith went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in Tyler, Texas with his loving family by his side.
Guy Dean Smith was born May 9, 1946 in Tyler, Texas the son of Guy Edward Smith and Maggie Turner Smith. He was a member of First Baptist Malakoff and enjoyed his time of fellowship with the Praise Class and Bible Study. He spent many years playing and then coaching baseball, basketball and football with the YMCA and other youth organizations. Guy was a past School Board member in Malakoff and worked in the Faith in Action food pantry. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who was awarded the Texas Big Game Hunter Award for a Whitetail he took in Henderson County. During his battle with brain cancer Guy took a Wounded Warrior deer hunting. He was a loving and giving man whose most precious time was spent with his family. Pop was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Darrell Wayne Smith.
Guy is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Jeri Fowler Smith of Athens; his son Greg Smith and wife Tanna of Rocky Branch; one daughter Krisi Smith Cole and husband Kevin of Waxahachie; one brother Michael Dale Smith of Athens; two sisters, Theresa Smith Crawford of Athens, La Juan Dixon and husband Bobby of Wills Point; eight grandchildren, Gunnar, Gage, Addyson and Garrison Smith, Kody, Kason, Keris and Kanaan Cole and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
