Representatives of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and current and former teachers of Athens, Crandall, Kaufman, Forney, and Mabank met with Representative Stuart Spitzer to deliberate on the multi-faceted problems effecting Texas schools. These ladies are passionate about improving Texas’ Public Education system, and offered their insight on issues like the inequality of school funding, the ineffectiveness of “teaching to the test”, and the importance of making sure our teachers are being cared for by keeping the Texas Retirement System sufficiently funded.
During the discussion Spitzer emphasized that although most of the problems are not easy fixes, the highest priority should be that the solutions be in the best interest of Texas students.
