The Tri-County Library has a new Director, Brandi Marett. Brandi was kind enough to come to our Rootseekers meeting to tell us about her ambitions for the library. She explained that she is a millennial, the generation that grew up with computers and pioneered social media. Her generation has become accustomed to instant communication and virtually limitless access to information. No other community resource has the power to change lives and futures quite like the library. We offer free home school lessons, study aids for all grade levels, test prep from the PSAT to the GRE, foreign lanquage and English as a second language classes, college admissions preparation, financial aid assistance, career assessments, certification courses, job search assistance, and resume building programs. The library also offers the latest bestsellers, but also inter-library loans, ebooks and two book clubs so patrons can share their thoughts with other book lovers. A children’s section has coloring books, building blocks and puzzles, books, bean bag chairs and a special early literacy computer, story time and a new play and learn group.
Once simply repositories of books, libraries have now become dynamic, versatile community centers, and modern librarians are no longer human card catalogs but savvy impresarios engaging patrons through social media, interactive websites and mobile apps, as well as in person classes, workshops, clubs and groups. Brandi loves knowledge and information. She loves helping people. She hopes the Tri-County area will come and check out the library and see the new improvements. And yes, we still have books, lots and lots of books.
Brandi grew up in Corsicana. She attended TCU where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio, TV, Film and a double degree in English. She has worked in libraries and education for 20 years, plus law, research, academic and public libraries in both the public and private sector.
