Press release
Kenneth Stowe, professional auctioneer and A&E Television Network regular cast member of Texas Storage Wars, not only picked up the gauntlet thrown by local attorney, Jeff Weinstein, but threw it back at him when he beat Weinstein’s auction results by $1,000 Thursday night.
The friendly rivalry was started when Weinstein challenged Stowe that he could raise more money than ‘the professional’ for Henderson County Performing Arts Center at their annual Goodies Auction. Stowe, while not naming Weinstein directly, made references to showing “an attorney how it’s done.”
Stowe, often depicted as a “bad guy” on Texas Storage Wars, taunted the bidders by saying such things as “You never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul. You can’t take it with you!” and “Bid high. Put it on your credit card that way it’s free – for a month, anyway!”
The audience responded to the amiable taunts with laughter and lively bidding. Several kids got in on the action with only occasional glances at their parents for approval. Twenty items brought in over $3,200. While not a record, Dennis Gilmore, former Executive Director of HCPAC, commented on the evening’s take by saying “It certainly ranks up in the top ten of our one-night proceeds. Congratulations to them both!”
Weinstein makes a repeat appearance at the 7:30 pm performance of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” Saturday, December 13. Stowe returns Friday for the 7:30 performance. Each has one more chance to outdo the other.
The other weekend celebrity auctioneer, Charles Tidmore, who will work the crowds Saturday afternoon, the 13th, has made no public comment regarding the ‘Texas Goodies War’. One audience member who wishes to remain anonymous remarked, “He (Tidmore) has his work cut out for him”.
Some tickets are still available for all performances. Reservations are strongly recommended and may be obtained at HCPAC 903-675-3908 or online at www.hcpac.org. HCPAC is a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation located at 400 Gibson Road, Athens, TX.
