Many of us remember the Hollywood mega-hit, 9 to 5, starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lilly Tomlin. Now Henderson County Performing Arts Center is bringing the musical version of the movie to life on their stage with all your favorite local actors.
It’s 1979, the Rolodex era, when women were secretaries not administrative assistants and certainly not CEO’s. The Good Old Boys Club ran the business world and women were objects to be ogled. Pushed to the boiling point by their boss, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot. They conspire to take control of their company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do – even in a man’s world. This is a hilarious story of friendship and revenge. Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, it’s about teaming up and taking care of business.
Dolly Parton wrote all the music and lyrics for this musical that follows the plot line of the movie while setting it naturally to songs and dances.
