Sabrina Garcia, a senior out of San Diego (Texas) High School, signed with the Trinity Valley Community College Cheerleaders on Monday, Feb. 3.
TVCC Head Cheer Coach Khris Franklin said he first met Garcia at a recruit clinic in Plano in early January. He was ecstatic that she wanted to be a part of a historic program that will be trying to secure its 10th NCA championship later this spring.
Garcia is no stranger to winning hardware herself, as she has already won several national titles including an NCA All Star National Championship and a Cheer Power National Championship.
“I am very excited about having Sabrina as our first signee of next year’s team,” Franklin said. “It is very rare to find a cheerleader that possesses the skill set and size that Sabrina has. She learns incredibly fast and has an athleticism and confidence that is so valuable in collegiate cheerleading. She is already talented, but will be unreal once she has a little time to spend in the college cheer environment. She was being recruited by all the top Texas colleges and we are very happy she chose The Valley.”
Franklin said this is the first time he has attempted to sign recruits early – much in the same way other traditional sports sign their athletes early. Franklin said he is hoping to sign between 6 and 10 individuals before tryouts on May 3-4.
“The athletic side of cheerleading is really only understood by people who have somehow participated in cheerleading,” Franklin said. “Cheerleaders work hard to become the people they are in the sport they love and we’re thrilled to be able to recognize them for it. We are super excited to welcome Sabrina Garcia to the program!”
