Malakoff UIL Film Team Advances to Second Round

The Malakoff High School UIL film team has made it to the second round of judging with the short film, “The Daydreamer.” The film is one of 43 that has advanced to the second round in the Division 1 Narrative section.

The film features Todd Johnson, a high school student that has vivid day dreams. In this film, Todd is always just one step away from being noticed by his true love, Riley.

“We wanted to make a character that was likeable and a story that was relatable,” said Clay Gaddis, the director of the film, “So I played around with some ideas and then one came to me during school one day.” Continue reading “Malakoff UIL Film Team Advances to Second Round”

Malakoff Elementary Nominated for Blue Ribbon Recognition

MESThe Texas Education Agency announced Thursday that Malakoff Elementary School has been nominated for national 2015 Blue Ribbon Schools recognition.

MES was one of 26 public schools in Texas nominated for the recognition and the only school in Henderson County.

Deputy Stops to Assist Motorist And Winds Up Arresting 3

On January 28, 2015 at approximately 7:31 p.m., Deputy Huckabee checked on a motorist assist on Highway 31 near FM 317 in Athens. After making contact with the operator identified as Shawn Horne, Deputy Huckabee found Horne to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine. Horne was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 over 1 gram less than 4grams.

Huckabee allowed Horne to call a friend to come and get the vehicle. Stevie Seidel arrived to take possession of the vehicle. Deputy Huckabee checked Seidels driver’s license and for warrants. Seidel had outstanding arrest warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia and violation promise to appear out of Caney City. Seidel was arrested for those warrants. Job Decription: Receives emergency and non-emergency calls and in-person requests for assistance, enters the information into CAD system and routes the request to the proper division or agency. Conducts computer searches for officers or other departments if needed. Maintains a record keeping system including officer logs and assigning case numbers. Answers routine inquiries and refers to appropriate departments or agencies. Must be able to operate computers, telephones, radios, recording equipment and related communication equipment.
Job Requirements: 40-hour TCOLE Telecommunicator Certification is preferred. Must be computer literate and have the ability to operate office equipment. Ability to type at least 30 words per minute. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Previous dispatching experience in the emergency response environment is preferred. Must take and pass tests for basic telecommunication courses within six months of employment.

Gun Barrel City Park Adult Softball League

Registration for our spring league has begun and the last day for registering is March 6.

  • Monday night: Women’s league
  • Tuesday night: Coed league
  • Thursday night: Men’s league
