Clark A. WattersAir Force Airman Clark A. Watters graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Watters is the son of Michael Watters of Eustace and grandson of James Clark of Mabank.

He is a 2010 graduate of Martin’s Mill High School.

Jan is the wife of George Aaron, owner of Elite Tax Service and Pea Pickers Produce in Athens. Jan fell ill in July of this year suffering a stroke. She has an auto-immune disease called TTP. This disease is believed to be the cause of her stroke. Since July, Jan and George have spent countless days and hours in the hospital or traveling for treatments in Shreveport, La. During this time Jan has suffered more strokes and most recently a more severe one the day before Thanksgiving. Her condition as of now is stable, but not good and she will require daily care once she is home.

We are asking for monetary donations that can made to help with expenses, such as room and board, traveling, and medical for Jan and family.

Additionally, there will be a benefit for Jan and family at Groom & Sons/Ace Hardware located at 219 South Palestine, Athens, TX 75751 on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Hot dogs and drinks will be served. There will also be a bake sale. Donations of any amount will be accepted.

Citizens National Bank and Johnson Chapel AME Church came together on Monday, Dec. 2, to build a better future for the Malakoff community.

Johnson Chapel AME Church was host to approximately 12 citizens from the Malakoff community who met with representatives from Citizens National Bank.

Carlos Padron, Assistant Vice President Branch Manager at Citizens National Bank in Malakoff, greeted the public and said, “This is a great opportunity for us to get to know the people in Malakoff and surrounding areas and for them to get to know us.”

The meeting was attended by members of First Baptist Church Bro. Derryl Jackson, Sis. Willie J. Graves, and Bro. Ricky Thomas. Bro. Robert Reed represented Church of Living God. Sis. Genova Smith represented Antioch Baptist Church. Sis. Marjorie Walker a concerned citizen who wanted to learn more about banking was in attendance. Rev. Vincent Bailey, Jr., Darty’s Temple came to gain knowledge on banking. Rev. R. C. Emanuel, owner of Emanuel Funeral Home in Palestine, and the Pastor of Rice Chapel AME Church in Dallas, Tx., and Rev. Judge Bill Burton from Athens, and the Pastor of St. Thomas AME Church in Alto, both who came to give support to Johnson Chapel AME Church and its members Evangelist Alma J. Berry, Bro. Ellenburg is the son of Kimberly Taqliauia of Bixby, Okla., and grandson of Billy Brown of Mabank.

He is a 2012 graduate of Drexel High School, Mo.
